| Manic Miner
Created by Mathew Smith for the 16K spectrum, this was a ground breaking game that delivered great playability, slick graphics and intense addictiveness. Each level gets progressively harder and the beauty is you can save a snapshot anytime you like if it gets too tuff. |

The follow up to Manic Miner, this game was vast for its day and broke a few boundaries with some of the animation techniques it employed. I played this game till I dropped, and my brother and I even wrote to a magazine with a set of cheats to remove all the sprites in the game to make it easier. The magazine published it but I can't find the article any more. |

| Atic Atac This game was just so playable and cool in it's day (once you got user to the controls!). It was made by Ultimate Play The Game and we used to wait with bated breath for each of their releases. I used to love the art work on the boxes, and this game was both highly addictive and very slick. Most of Ultimate's games lived up to their hype and this was no exception. |

This game remains a personal favourite of mine to this day. Once again the excitement before it's release was electric and it took the Spectrum to a new level. Ultimate took advantage, releasing the game in a video cassette size box and inflating the price (£9:95) but I think it was worth it. It still remains my favourite Spectrum game of all time. |

Back to the 16K release days with this one. It was very addictive, wave after wave of aliens all there to stop you building and refuelling your rocket ship and taking off. Once again I played this game until the wee hours of the morning (If my parents didn't catch me!) David Pagett ©2000 |
