At the end of 2003 I purchased my first SLR camera. It is made by Praktica and was made in what was the old East Germany. The mode I have is a Nova II, this is really a super TL1000 (1st variation) 're-badged' for the UK-market. The camera was produced between December 1984 and February 1986 in Dresden. Shutter times are between 1 and 1/1000 second and there is also a bulb setting. The stutter releases accepts a standard cable release which is Ok for long exposure photographs. There is however, no self timer on this model. Film speeds between 15 and 1600 ASA.

I purchased the camera on Ebay for less than 20 quid and I then had it serviced and picked up a couple of cheap lenses also from Ebay. As the camera uses the popular M42 screw lens system, cheap lenses are easy to come by. The Lens that came with the camera is a 50mm Cosinon 1.7 complete with skylight filter. I also bought a 135mm Helios 2.8 portrait Lens and a 28mm Promura 2.8 wide angle lens. I have added a 2X Teleconverter to my collection which was suffering from a little fungal attack, but nothing that a little elbow grease could not put right. |

Have a look at some of my results, bare in mind though that I purchased the camera primarily for astrophotography, and the pictures I have taken are usually to finish off the film or just to test some ideas.
